Tia Clark Expert Crabber • Tia Clark was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, as part of the Gullah Geechee community. Despite growing up in the area, she didn’t catch her first blue crab until she was 37 years old. Hooked by her experience, she soon left her job in the food and beverage industry and started Casual Crabbing with Tia, a hosted crabbing experience that became an incredibly popular Charleston experience. We caught up with Tia on a dock along the Ashley River. Here’s her story.

NOAA WEATHER SYMBOLS • Whether your regular boating waters are inland lakes or offshore, every boater should at least know the most common National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather symbols and what they mean, and how to interpret warnings. It could determine the difference between making it back to home port or not. Now that colder boating is upon us, knowing these symbols becomes even more critical. This Captain’s Test will help you with weather symbols. How much do you know?

SACRIFICIAL ANODES • Small, affordable, and critical—sacrificial anodes are your boat’s first line of defense against corrosive damage. By absorbing galvanic corrosion, these simple components protect vital metal parts such as props, lower units, shafts, and struts from deteriorating in salt or fresh water. Here are a few of the pros and cons of the three most common anode materials—zinc, aluminum, and magnesium—used as sacrificial anodes aboard boats and on motors.
